What Are Periodontics?
Periodontics provide special treatment of periodontal disease through non-surgical and surgical means.
- Individualized treatment direction is based on a patient's medical history, dental history, his or her chief concern, and the goals of the restorative dentist.
- Non-surgical treatment of periodontitis includes scaling or root planing, oral hygiene optimization, and pharmaceutical supplements.
- Surgical procedures for correcting periodontal defects caused by periodontitis include resective therapy, regenerative therapy, and laser gum therapy.
The two most common periodontal diseases we treat are gingivitis and periodontitis. Although both gum diseases are preventable, they can develop into more serious issues if left untreated.
Gingivitis is a common, mild form of gum disease or periodontal disease that causes irritation, redness and swelling (the indicators of inflammation) of your gums. Because gingivitis can be mild, you may not be aware that you have the condition. It's important to take gingivitis seriously and treat it promptly, as Gingivitis can lead to much more serious gum disease (periodontitis) and eventual tooth loss.
Periodontitis is a serious gum infection that damages the soft tissue and destroys the bone that supports your teeth. Periodontitis can cause tooth loss or worse, an increased risk of heart attack or stroke and other serious health problems.
Periodontal Procedures Include:
- Cosmetic Gum Sculpting
- Receding Gum Treatment (Pinhole Surgical Technique)
- Guided Tissue Regeneration
- Ridge Augmentation
- Soft Tissue Grafting
- Soft Tissue Biopsy
- Crown Lengthening
- Cosmetic Periodontics
- Canine Exposure
- Oral Health Maintenance
To make the referral process as easy as possible, we have developed a patient referral form that provides all necessary information to treat your patient based on your direction on one page.
